总部位于美国佐治亚州的Danimer Scientific公司和位于华盛顿的自有品牌制造商Eagle Beverage Products公司宣布，计划生产由Danimer公司的Nodax PHA制成的可生物降解饮品吸管，用于快餐业。
经过佐治亚大学研究人员和UGA新材料研究所的测试，Nodax PHA 提供了一种可生物降解的传统石化塑料替代品。PHA是一类可生物降解的生物高分子，以多种微生物发酵作为能量来源和碳储存。
由Nodax制成的吸管可以在从工业堆肥设施到家庭堆肥单位和海洋等各种环境中完全降解，不会留下微塑料。据Eagle Beverage公司副总裁Aisha Kabani介绍，新吸管将“为餐厅提供一个具有成本效益的解决方案，为顾客提供更好的饮料享受”。
这些吸管将100%在美国生产，预计将在2021年初提供给Eagle Beverage在快餐业的客户购买。
在推出吸管后，Eagle Beverage计划将其产品扩展到可堆肥食品容器、包装等方面。
Danimer Scientific的Nodax PHA已获得7项奥地利TüV AUSTRIA认证和工业及家庭堆肥性声明，可在厌氧条件下、土壤欧洲杯网上推荐买球、淡水和海洋环境中进行生物降解，并且100%以生物为基础。Danimer Scientific的所有生物聚合物，包括其Noda PHA，均已获得FDA批准，可用于食品接触。
